· The Crossraods Centre in Antiqua, a $6.5 million addiction recovery centre underwritten by Eric Clapton, opened. The centre offered a 29-day intensive recovery program for $9,000, but those who couldn’t pay were expected to work off the debt after treatment. Clapton said he would offer his experience and would work directly with patients from time to time
1999
· BBC radio DJ, Johnny Walker was convicted of possession of cocaine and fined £2000. Set up by News of the World who filmed him with the drug, he was later reinstated by Radio 2 who had suspended him after the incident

· UK newspaper The Mirror reported that Toni Braxton pulled out of this year’s US MOBO Awards after one of her breast implants exploded. A spokesperson from Arista said ”We don’t comment on our artist’s personal lives.”
2001
· A 29-year-old man was arrested by Dutch police on suspicion of sending indecent and threatening messages to Spice Girls’ Mel C. The mail was alleged to be sexually explicit and included a death threat
2002
· UK rock band MUSE took legal action against Celine Dion after she announced that her forthcoming Las Vegas show would be called “Muse”. Singer Matt Bellamy from the band said, ”we don’t want anyone to think we’re Celine Dion’s backing band”
