1964 - Shindig premiers on TV, featuring songs by current rock groups in a dance party atmospher, complete with mini-skirted go-go girls
1966 - The Who performed at The Odeon, Derby, England
1967 - The Vanilla Fudge's debut Lp, containing a 7 minute single, You Keep Me Hangin' On, enters the charts
1970 - Led Zeppelin won Best Group category in Melody Maker readers' poll. First time in 8 years it hadn't been The Beatles
1970 - Jimi Hendrix joined Eric Burdon onstage at Ronnie Scott's Jazz Club in London. It turned out to be Jimi's last public performance
1972 - Rod Stewart's Never a Dull Moment hits no 1 on UK album charts

1998 - At a Sotheby's auction a notebook containing the words to Hey Jude and belonging to Beatles' roadie Mal Evans, sold for the equivalent $189,550. Also auctioned was John Lennon's 2-tone denim jacket ($15,640) and Ginger Spice's union-jack dress ($70,244)
